
Charlene Howard is the Executive Director of Pax Christi USA (PCUSA) a membership organization that rejects war, preparation for war, every form of violence and domination, and personal and systemic racism grounded in the Gospel and Catholic social teaching. As a section of Pax Christi International, PCUSA is a Catholic peace and justice movement that seeks to model thepeace of Christ in its witness to the mandate of the nonviolence of the Cross. Prior to becoming the PCUSA Executive Director, Charlene served as the chair of it’s National Council while also a member of the regional Pax Christi Metro
DC-Baltimore chapter. A longtime teacher in the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools, Mrs. Howard holds a master’s degree in Catechesis and Religious Education from The Catholic Universityof America; is a graduate and former faculty of the Institute for Black Catholic Studies Imani Catechetical Program at Xavier University of Louisiana (the only Historically Black University that is Catholic and the only Historically Catholic University that is an HBCU); recently received a certificate of preaching as a member of the inaugural cohort of the Aquinas Institute of Theology, New Frontiers in Preaching Academy; and is a Master Catechist in the Archdiocese of Washington. She is a mother of 4 children and the grandmother of 5 who works with her husband, Evangelist Michael Howard, to spread God’s word through catechetical formation, writing curriculum for the University of Dayton virtual classes, leading retreats and facilitating Small Group experiences on-line. Most importantly, Charlene Howard is a child of God working to proclaim the Good News that we are made in His image and greatly loved.
